New Voices for Reproductive Justice (New Voices) is a leader in the Reproductive Justice movement. With nearly two decades of experience in identity-based and issue-based leadership development, community engagement and organizing, and state and federal-level policy advocacy, New Voices is the first Reproductive Justice organization in Pennsylvania and the first and only in Ohio. Our mission is to support and build power for and alongside Black women, Black queer folks, and Black marginalized people through leadership development, community care, resourcing, and mutual aid. Our work is firmly rooted in the Reproductive Justice framework, and our programming reflects our mission, focusing on core issues, including voter engagement, abortion access, and environmental justice

About the Role:

The Integrated Voter Engagement Canvasser is a critical member of the Integrated Voter Engagement team, and is responsible for implementing our voter engagement programming across Pennsylvania and Ohio. The goal is to build power among Black women, femmes, girls and gender-expansive people who are either unregistered or infrequent voters. The IVE Canvasser is key in connecting this voter base to the local and the national Reproductive Justice movement.

This position requires an outgoing, goal-focused, experienced self-starter with a professional background in voter engagement, community organizing and/or another cause based organization.  A background or experience in Social, Reproductive, Economic or Racial Justice is preferred.  The IVE Voter Engagement Canvasser will assist in mobilizing Black people of all genders and backgrounds, build organizational visibility, and will be dedicated to the health and well-being of those we serve throughout our three core cities of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland.

This position will represent the organization and our constituents through voter engagement coalitions and via partnerships and alliances. Travel is required on an as-needed basis.

What we are looking for:

  • Engage in the outreach to our constituents, organizations, and stakeholders.

  • Assist in directing voter registration, voter education, and Get Out the Vote activities.

  • Build and participate in Integrated Voter Engagement events/rallies/marches.

  • Maintain weekly phone, text and door canvassing goals.

  • Assist in registering those interested in voting.

  • Troubleshoot with community members issues related to registration via the offering of resources located in the community.

  • Educate community members via issue based telephone banking on current policies/issues that directly affects the community.

What You Should Have:

  • A High School Diploma.

  • Experience in engaging in successful community organizing campaigns.

  • Strong engagement, written and oral communication skills.

  • Display creativity, problem-solving, resourcefulness, and flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Experience in Community Organizing, Activism, Reproductive Justice, Voter Engagement, Public Policy Advocacy, Human Rights, Black Women's Health, and Social Justice.

  • Desire to create social, economic, and political opportunities for Black women, girls and gender-expansive people.

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends

  • Passion, enthusiasm, motivation, commitment, integrity, humor, optimism, positivity, and the ability to inspire others to engage in our work.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace & Zoom (Docs, Calendar, Google Meets).
